The formidable Malaysian badminton team suffered stunning early losses in the recently concluded Japan Open which led to speculations that a major revamp is needed in terms of selecting the country’s representatives in upcoming international tournaments. However, these rumors were quashed by national coach Rosman Razak.

In the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles, Malaysian no. 2 team Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif and Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari were bundled out by badminton shuttles form Indonesians Rian Sukmawan and Yonathan Suryatama in less the fifty minutes. The score was 23-25, 21-16, 10-21.

This was the first time that the Malaysian duo lost to the younger Indonesian pair in the past five meetings. This prompted concerns that the younger team will have a bigger shot in winning the Thomas Cup Finals next year compared to the veteran players.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian women’s doubles team were not as fortunate after they lost the shuttlecock game to China’s Wang Xiaoli and Ma Jin.

Razak said that despite the disappointing performances of the national squash last year, there’s no need for a major revamp among players. As of now, Razak revealed that their chief coach Rexy Mainaky is assessing the players’ performances and will come out with a game plan that could work in upcoming tournaments.

Razak added that the national players will continue competing in international tournaments in order to build consistency in their game.

The coach stressed that the competition is now fierce these days that in order to come out with a better team would mean building confidence among the players.
